I don't know what kind of camera you have, but I do have a couple tips that might help. First, take the photos on a little tripod. This will keep the camera from shaking, and allow the shutter to stay open longer. And I would suggest using your flash in such low light situations. Flashes get a bad wrap, but if used properly they are very useful. The light from the flash can be very harsh, so if you put a strip of scotch tape over it...it will filter it. You can also use a thin piece of tissue paper if you don't want to put tape on it. You might also want to do a little reading in your camera manual about what white balance options you have, and play with that. It will help the coloring of your photos.
